NBC journalist Jodi Hernández shared the video on Twitter and wrote: “The video of a cell phone captures the terrible moments in which they shot at an Airbnb Halloween party in Orinda. Multiple shots and screams can be heard. The suspects are still free. ” The event was called a “mansion party” on social media, according to The San Francisco Chronicle.

During a press conference, police chief David Cook said about 100 people were at the party, which took place at a rental house near Oakland. Four people were killed in the shooting and five more were injured. Police have not yet arrested any suspect in the case. The people in the house were not from Orinda. The reason for the mass shooting is still unclear.

The house was rented for a family reunion

“At least four people died and five others were injured after gunfire broke out at a Halloween party in Orinda, California, Thursday night, authorities say; there is no confirmed information on the number of victims or their conditions ”.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the owner of the rental house, Michael Wang, told the station that he rented it through Airbnb to a woman who claimed it would be used for a family reunion. The neighbors complained that there was too much noise.

KCBS journalist Doug Sovern wrote on Twitter: “A woman has just returned to the scene of the #Orinda shooting to try to recover her car. She said her baby’s father (who was with her) is among the victims. He was crying when police said his car is still in the active crime scene. ”

The Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office released details in a press release. “On Thursday night, October 31, 2019, at around 10:50, Orinda police officers were sent to reports of a shooting at a residence in the 100 blocks of Lucille Way in Orinda,” he said.

“The Orinda officers, assisted by law enforcement officers from the area, arrived on the scene and found a large house party with more than 100 attendees. There were three victims of the apparent shooting who were declared dead at the scene. Another died later in the hospital.

The statement continued: “Other victims were taken to local hospitals by ambulance. The exact number is unknown as some victims were transported to the hospital. The Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff’s Forensic Services Division The crime laboratory and homicide unit detectives responded to the scene. The investigation is ongoing “.
