Vinesh Phogat: India’s female wrestler Vinesh Phogat has qualified for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. On Wednesday, she defeated world number-1 Sarah Hildebrandt of America in the 53 kg category at the ongoing World Wrestling Championship in Noor-Sultan, Kazakhstan. With this, she has become the first Indian Wrestler to qualify for the Olympic Games to be held in Tokyo next year.
Asian Games gold medalist 25-year-old Vinesh secured her place for the Olympics with an 8–2 win over an American opponent in the second round of repechages. she also made it to the bronze medal match in the championship. The next Olympics will begin in Tokyo on 24 July 2020.

Vinesh will now face Maria Prevolarki of Greece in a bronze medal match on Wednesday. Earlier, she won Ukraine’s Yuliya Blahnya 5–0 in the first round of repechages to remain in contention for the Olympic quota and bronze medal in the 53 kg category.
