According to PTI’s report, former captain of Indian cricket team Sourav Ganguly may become the new president of BCCI. Jai Shah, son of Home Minister Amit Shah, may be appointed as the new secretary of BCCI and Arun Dhumal, younger brother of Union State Finance Minister Anurag Thakur, as the new treasurer of BCCI. October 14 is the last date for filing nominations for these posts. But there is a slim chance that elections will also need to be held, as Ganguly, Shah, and Dhumal are likely to be elected almost unopposed.
Ganguly will be able to stay for 10 months President
It is noteworthy that Sourav Ganguly, 47, was recently elected unopposed as the President of the Bengal Cricket Association for the second consecutive time. If Sourav Ganguly becomes the President of BCCI, then his tenure will be only around 10 months. Because according to the new BCCI constitution, they have to go for a 3-year cooling-off period in September next year. Under this, Ganguly will not be appointed to any post of BCCI for the next three years.
Brijesh Patel of former BCCI president N Srinivasan in the name of Sourav Ganguly was the first leader in the post. But on this occasion, Sourav Ganguly’s name is being mentioned as the frontrunner in this race. A member of the North East Association of BCCI told PTI, ‘Yes, Br Jesh Patel was leading the race for the post of president. N Srinivasan was also lobbying for him. But the name of Brijesh was not common. Everyone is happy that Sourav Ganguly will be the new chairman of BCCI.
