Why is Ganga Dasara celebrated?
According to Hindu belief, Ganga was on the day of Ganga Dussehra. That is, on this day the river Ganges was born on the land. According to a popular story from Ganga Dussehra, Rishi Bhagirath needed fresh water for his ancestors to immerse the bones of the ancestors. For this, he performed harsh austerity of mother Ganga, from which the mother Ganga descended on the earth. But due to the rapid flow of the Ganges, they could not immerse the bones. Then the mother Ganga said that if Lord Shiva shed them in their hair and flow my stream on the earth, then it can be possible. Rishi Bhagirath has now urged Lord Shiva to meditate in the jata of the Ganges by doing penance. After this, Shiva streamed a small stream of Ganga towards the Earth. After that, the participant was able to immerse the bones of his ancestors and thus the embodiment of the Ganga was on the earth.

Tale of Ganga Dashwara
According to a popular story, once Maharaj Sagar sacrificed a yagya. His father Anshuman took over the burden of protecting that sacrifice. Indra kidnapped Sagar’s sacrificial horse. It was a disruption for the yagya. Because of this, Anshuman started searching for Ashwa, with 60 thousand Sagar’s people. Sara found the world but did not get the horse. Then the earth was dug to find Horse in the hollow. On digging, he saw that the Gods are doing penance in the form of ‘Maharishi Kapil’. He has the horse of Lord Sagar running in the grass. The people started shouting ‘thieves and thieves’ by seeing them.

Maharishi Kapil’s mausoleum was broken. As soon as Maharishi opened his southeast eye, all the people were consumed. For the salvation of these dead people, Bhajirath, son of Maharaj Dilip, had a severe harsh treatment. Pleased with the tenacity of Bhagiratha, Brahma asked him to ask for a blessing, Bhagirath demanded ‘Ganga’.

Brahma said, ‘Rajan! You want the Ganga to descend on the earth? But have you asked the earth that he will be able to handle Ganga’s weight and velocity? I think the power to handle the velocity of the Ganges is only in Lord Shiva. Therefore it would be fair to get the grace and blessings of Lord Shiva for taking charge of the Ganges. Maharaj Bhagirath did the same.

Pleased with his harsh penance, Brahmaji left the Ganges stream with his kamandal. Then Lord Shiva tied the stream of the Ganges together in his hair and tied it. The result was that the Ganga could not find the path to get out of the data.

Now Maharaj Bhagirath got more worried. They once again started burning piety in the worship of Lord Shiva. Then Lord Shiva gave a boon to free the stream of Ganga. Thus, by exempting Shivaji’s shoes, Gangaji turned to the plain by annihilating the valley in the Himalayas. Thus, Bhagiratha was fortunate enough to take the Ganga on earth.
