Kerber was beaten by Russia’s Anastasia Potapova 6-4, 6-2 in the first round of Women’s singles and out of the tournament. Potapova’s first win against a top-10 player in this career. Now Potapova will compete in the second round of Wang Yfan of China or Marceta Vondroseova of Czech Republic.

The 18-year-old Potapova won the Grand Slam title three times. After winning the match, Potapova said, “I had confidence in myself and would like to thank my coach for this win.” Kerber could not perform as per his game in this match. Potapova made a splendid game in the second round. Kerber placed 16 winners in the match, while Potapova put 28 winners.
